Bishop (Baba) John Goodwin and his wife, Amonna Sue, are both children of missionaries, having been raised in Ghana, West Africa, where their families have been in ministry for over eighty years. They have been in full-time cross cultural ministry since 1979.
During this time they founded two development and relief organizations, established 33 church based schools, a health care system with several outpatient clinics, community health programs and a referral hospital. At one time he was responsible for over two hundred full time employees, several hundred volunteers and oversight of a Christian School system. They have also done extensive refugee relief work with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. The Goodwins have assisted in the establishment of many other works in the United States and around the world including a world wide missionary movement.
Baba John and Amonna Sue Goodwin have a passion to share the Gospel with the nation of Ghana, West Africa and all people of African descent in this present generation. Baba John and Amonna Sue Goodwin have a passion to share the Gospel with the nation of Ghana, West Africa and all people of African descent in this present generation. Both of their parents were pioneer missionaries in what was then called the Gold Coast (now Ghana). John’s parents arrived in Gold Coast in 1937 with their 9-month-old son, Sidney. Ten years later, Amonna Sue’s parents, the Franklin McCorkles arrived. John, his brother, two sisters, and Amonna Sue grew up ministering throughout the country. On January 1, 1963 John’s brother Sidney died of burns in Bawku, Ghana. He had just returned with his family as missionaries to Ghana. It was at that time John heard God’s call to return and minister in Ghana. After college, marriage, and ministry in the USA, John and Amonna Sue returned with their family to Ghana, the land of God’s calling. They have been involved in cross-cultural ministry since 1979.
John and Amonna Sue are accomplishing their vision through strategic planning, networking with like minded people, coordinating with other ministries and support from partners.
Through Christian education, relief, community development, medical assistance, mentoring and mobilization, John and Amonna Sue have risen to the challenge of reaching the people of Ghana and West Africa with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
